Colectiva Manos is a collective of nine Latine visual artists founded in late 2022. Colectiva Manos was formed to cultivate opportunities and community among Latine artists, cultural workers, and lovers of art in New Orleans. We chose the name "Manos" to honor the profound symbolism of hands as conduits for creation and connection.
Hands transcend mere functionality: they are storytellers, weaving the threads of generational experiences into a tapestry that reflects the diverse voices within Latine communities. MANOS was formed by artists with roots in various places in Latin America and the Caribbean. Similarly, our art practices encompass various mediums, including painting, mask-making, performance, sculpture, event production, printmaking, film, illustration, prosthetics, and textiles.
Our collective includes Andrea Narno, Angel Perdomo, Arlyn Jimenez, Basqo Bim, Karla Rosas, Marcus Chapa, Maya Pen, Sydney Calderon, and Tania Vidal.
As a collective, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of artistic norms, actively representing the diverse voices within the Latine community, and reshaping the prevailing narrative of the contemporary art scene through an authentic and nuanced Latine perspective. We aim to create opportunities for experiencing art outside traditional gallery spaces and for our communities to experience art as active participants and sources of knowledge.
